As a self-governed municipality, the Town of Chevy Chase View is empowered to perform certain functions and enforce regulations within its boundaries which would otherwise be the responsibility of Montgomery County. Chevy Chase View residents are subject to the Chevy Chase View Charter, Policies and Regulations. These include Building Regulations which are specific to the Town of Chevy Chase View and which supersede Montgomery County Building Regulations.

The Municipal Code of Chevy Chase View addresses the laws and regulations for the residents of the Town. Specific attention should be given to Chapter 13, if a resident is considering construction or renovation. Application must be made for a building permit and approval issued by the Town Council before construction may begin. Procedures for Timely Production and Inspection of Public Records under the Maryland Public Information Act: Effective October 1, 2015, the Town Council adopted this policy that sets forth the procedures and fees involved with procuring Town documents. The Town of Chevy Chase View maintains certain files and records that are classified as public records. Generally, these public records may be made available to the public in accordance with the provisions of the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA). Driveway and Driveway Apron Policy – Pursuant to Section 13-610 of the Town Municipal Code, the approval of the Council is required for construction involving a residential driveway or driveway apron in the public right-of-way. In approving or denying a permit for construction involving a residential driveway or driveway apron in the public right-of-way, it is the policy of the Council to require compliance with Montgomery County standards, as amended, for residential driveways and driveway aprons, provided however, there shall be no minimum driveway or driveway apron width requirements. Sign Policy – It is the policy of Chevy Chase View to enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety by limiting visual distractions and physical obstructions and by maintaining clear sight lines for users of the public right-of-way, and to maintain the continued attractiveness of the Town through the reduction of litter and visual clutter, by providing the following standards for signs displayed within the Town. Tree Policy – It is the policy of Chevy Chase View to plant, maintain, protect and replace right-of-way trees. Chevy Chase View maintains it is in the Town’s best interest and to the benefit of residents to plant trees at all appropriate planting sites in the right-of-way. View Tree Policy.
