Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a public workshop on the proposed Summit Avenue Extension on Thursday, September 14, 2017, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Kensington Town Hall, 3710 Mitchell Street, Kensington, MD 20895. The workshop will be in an open house format with a presentation at 7:45 PM. The public is invited to submit comments on the proposal by Monday, October 16, 2017. (see address below)
MCDOT is currently performing a planning study to determine the need to extend the existing Summit Avenue from Plyers Mill Road to the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and University Boulevard via Farragut Avenue. This will extend over approximately 1,350 feet of length and widen the existing bridge over the CSX Railroad. Three options have been evaluated and will be discussed at the workshop. According to MCDOT this proposal is consistent with the 2012 Kensington Sector Plan, which recommends extending Summit Avenue north of Plyers Mill Road as a two-lane Business Street in a 60-foot right-of-way with a Signed Shared Roadway Local Bikeway.
